LASTLID / CRAVING TIMER

Craving timer

A craving rises, peaks and passes in a few minutes. You do not have to defeat it — you have to outlast it. Start the timer and breathe with the circle until it is over.

Nothing here leaves your browser. If you save your reasons they stay on this device, in this browser, and nowhere else. Who writes this.

Why three minutes works

A craving is not a pressure that builds until you break. It is a wave: it climbs, tops out and comes down, whether or not you do anything. That changes the job from resisting indefinitely to being occupied for a few minutes — a much easier problem.

The NHS puts it plainly: cravings "usually only last a few minutes, so have a distraction ready". Three minutes is a practical round number for a timer, not a measured threshold.

The breathing is not a trick to make the craving vanish. Breathing out for longer than you breathe in reliably takes the edge off the agitation sitting on top of the craving, which is usually the part that makes people act.

And the reasons matter more than any general fact about health. At the peak of a craving, "nicotine is addictive" does nothing. Something specific and yours does.

Want this on your phone?

This page is the timer on its own. The Lastlid app runs the same three minutes in context: it knows your plan, how many pouches you have left today, and how many cravings you have already ridden out — which turns out to matter at the moment you are deciding whether this one counts.

It also asks, at the end, which way it went. Here nothing is recorded, because there is nothing to record it against.
